With this website we would like to inform you about the Bleu du Maine breed and the Studbook, which has been active in the Netherlands since 1987.

ABOUT THE BREED

The Bleu du Maine, originally called Mouton Bleu, was created at the end of the last century from a cross between the Chotelais and the Leicester or the Chotelais and the Wensleydale. It is an excellent pasture breed and a large sheep with a lot of volume. It is not certain which crossing caused the blue head. An extremely strict selection has made it one of the most productive varieties has become in the world.

Zoals elk jaar komt de foktechnische commissie in oktober bij elkaar in het kader van uniformering keuren Bleu du Maine schapen. Een gezellige maar vooral nuttige dag.

Wegens het blauwtongvirus is er dit jaar geen fysieke keuring geweest maar een videokeuring georganiseerd.
De uitslag zal 18 januari bekend worden gemaakt.

About the pedigree

The first Mounton Bleu association, later Bleu du maine, was founded in the late 1920s in France. The studbook was first recognized in France in 1948. In the Netherlands it was established in 1987.
