With this website we would like to inform you about the Bleu du Maine breed and the Studbook, which has been active in the Netherlands since 1987.

ABOUT THE BREED

The Bleu du Maine, originally called Mouton Bleu, was created at the end of the last century from a cross between the Chotelais and the Leicester or the Chotelais and the Wensleydale. It is an excellent pasture breed and a large sheep with a lot of volume. It is not certain which crossing caused the blue head. An extremely strict selection has made it one of the most productive varieties has become in the world.

zaterdag 23 Augustus weer een mooie nationale keuring organiseren op het prachtige landgoed

Op zaterdag 23 augustus 2025 is het zover! Dan vindt de jaarlijkse Bleu du Maine keuring plaats op het prachtige Landgoed Mariënwaerdt, gelegen bij Beesd. We zijn blij dat we dit jaar weer fysiek bij elkaar kunnen komen.

About the pedigree

The first Mounton Bleu association, later Bleu du maine, was founded in the late 1920s in France. The studbook was first recognized in France in 1948. In the Netherlands it was established in 1987.
